In our exploration of the differences between nylon wheels and plastic wheels, we've found that while these two materials may appear strikingly similar in appearance, they actually have significant performance differences. Nylon wheels, known for their superior stability and load-bearing capabilities, are ideal for supporting large equipment or heavy gates. On the other hand, plastic wheels are more suited for lighter equipment and have a relatively shorter lifespan.

Some customers may opt for plastic wheels due to cost considerations. However, it's true that some manufacturers in the market may substitute higher-priced nylon wheels with lower-cost materials to reduce expenses, leading to price disparities among products made from the same material. The lack of material knowledge among consumers often makes it difficult for them to discern and purchase qualified products.


To assist consumers in better identifying nylon guide rollers and plastic guide roller, this article provides some simple identification methods:


 

**Appearance and Hardness**: 



Nylon wheels typically exhibit a light yellow or milky white color. Due to their polymeric nature, they possess high mechanical strength comparable to that of metal materials. A simple identification method is to gently tap the wheel with a hammer to test its hardness. If the wheel is hard, it is likely a nylon wheel; if it is soft, it may be a plastic wheel.

**Scratch Test**: 



Although plastic casters may look and color similarly to nylon casters, they can be distinguished by drawing the wheel across a piece of white paper. Plastic wheels will leave noticeable scratches on the paper, whereas nylon wheels will not.

For further verification, the following experimental tests can help differentiate between these two materials:

 

**Burn Test**:



 PP (plastic) is more flammable than PA (nylon), producing black smoke and an odor similar to candle wax when burned. PA, when burned, has a yellow flame at the top and a blue flame at the bottom, with molten material rolling off the burning part, and an odor that is more unpleasant compared to PP, resembling the smell of burning plants.


 **Density Test**: 



Due to the different densities of the two materials, they can be tested by placing them in water. The density of PA (using PA6 as an example) is about 1.14-1.15g/cm³, while the density of PP is about 0.90-0.91g/cm³. In water, the denser nylon wheels will sink to the bottom, while the less dense PP will float on the surface.


Using these methods, consumers can more accurately identify and choose the wheel material that best suits their needs.
